- 1 loaf of bread (French or Italian), cubed
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon or sausage (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions or chives
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon mustard (optional)
- Butter or non-stick spray for greasing the baking dish
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and mustard (if using).
- Add the cubed bread to the egg mixture, stirring gently to combine. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
- Add in the shredded cheese, cooked bacon or sausage, and chopped green onions. Mix well.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
- In the morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the plastic wrap from the baking dish and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
