Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of French bread, cut into cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Place the cubed French bread in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Gently press down on the bread to soak up the mixture.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
  6. Bake the covered casserole for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Drizzle with maple syrup and dust with powdered sugar before serving. Top with fresh berries if desired.
