Fried okra in air fryer: 5 Irresistible steps to perfect crunch

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

Crispy and delicious fried okra made easily in your air fryer for a healthier twist on a classic Southern dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh okra, sliced
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, soak the sliced okra in buttermilk for about 15 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Remove the okra from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then coat the okra in the cornmeal mixture, pressing to adhere.
  5. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray, then add the coated okra in a single layer. Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray as well.
  6. Air fry the okra for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double dip the okra by dipping it back in buttermilk and then in the cornmeal mixture again.
  • Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
  • You can adjust the seasoning to your preference by adding cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
