Description
Crispy and delicious fried okra made easily in your air fryer for a healthier twist on a classic Southern dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound fresh okra, sliced
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- In a bowl, soak the sliced okra in buttermilk for about 15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Remove the okra from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then coat the okra in the cornmeal mixture, pressing to adhere.
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray, then add the coated okra in a single layer. Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray as well.
- Air fry the okra for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
- For extra crunch, double dip the okra by dipping it back in buttermilk and then in the cornmeal mixture again.
- Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
- You can adjust the seasoning to your preference by adding cayenne pepper for a spicy kick.
