Description

This overnight French toast casserole is a delicious and easy breakfast option that’s perfect for feeding a crowd. Prepare it the night before, and simply pop it in the oven in the morning for a warm, comforting dish that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of French bread, cut into cubes
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving)
  • Fresh berries (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  2. Add the cubed French bread to the egg mixture and gently fold until all the bread is coated. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  3. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours.
  4. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the plastic wrap and bake the casserole for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown and set in the center.
  5. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle with maple syrup, dust with powdered sugar, and top with fresh berries if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute the French bread with challah or brioche for an even richer flavor.
  • Feel free to add mix-ins like chocolate chips, nuts, or dried fruit into the bread mixture before baking.
  • This casserole can be assembled and frozen for up to 2 months. Just thaw in the refrigerator overnight before baking.
