This Overnight Sausage Egg Casserole is a delicious and easy breakfast dish that can be prepared the night before. Perfect for feeding a crowd or enjoying a cozy morning at home.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, crumbled
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the crumbled sausage until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and dried mustard.
  3. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the bread cubes, then half of the cooked sausage, and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered bread, sausage, and cheese. Press down gently to ensure all bread is soaked.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  6. The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
  8. Bake uncovered for 45-55 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top.
  9. Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can customize this casserole by adding vegetables such as bell peppers or spinach.
  • This casserole can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
