  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

This hearty overnight casserole is perfect for breakfast or brunch. It combines savory sausage, fluffy eggs, and cheese for a delicious start to your day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, casings removed
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 cups cubed bread (preferably stale)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. In a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, layer half of the bread cubes, followed by half of the cooked sausage, and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  4. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the top of the casserole, ensuring all the bread is soaked.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  6. The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the casserole from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  7. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden on top. If it browns too quickly, cover with foil.
  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped green onions if desired. Serve warm.
